Lorraine qualified as a paediatric nurse from South Bank University, London in 2000.  She spent the early part of her career working at Great Ormond Street hospital across all aspects of Cardiorespiratory care before becoming a Cardiothoracic recipient transplant coordinator and CNS. 

In 2012, Lorraine took on a Cardiology CNS role at Harefield hospital.  It was here that Lorraine learned about FH and in 2014 was fortunate to secure a BHF funded post working within the FH service at Harefield hospital. 

Throughout her career, Lorraine has been extensively engaged in academic activities by presenting and publishing significant work.  Since 2015, she has been a nurse representative on the National Paediatric FH Steering group.

In 2022, Lorraine was invited to join the HEART UK Medical, Scientific and Research Committee.  In 2017, she won the Rianna Wingett award at HEART UK and in 2022 was a joint winner for the John Betteridge award for best oral healthcare presentation. 

More recently, Lorraine has become a co applicant and deputy clinical lead for the NIHR funded project observing lipid modifying therapy in children with Heterozygous FH.  However, first and foremost, Lorraine places children and their families at the forefront of her care and hope that one day, collectively, we will influence policy and drive change with the implementation of a national screening programme for FH putting less children and their families at risk of dying from preventable premature cardiovascular disease.
